About the Song:
Les Bicyclettes de Belsize is a 1968 British musical short film (30 mins) starring Judy Huxtable and Anthony May. There is almost no spoken dialogue, and the soundtrack to the film is heard virtually throughout. The title song of the film, written by Les Reed and Barry Mason, has been a hit for Mireille Mathieu and Engelbert Humperdinck (a top ten hit in the UK and a top 40 hit in the USA) amongst others.
The composer – Les Reed was an accomplished musician by the age of fourteen, playing the piano, accordion and vibraphone. Allmusic noted that “Reed’s sixty or more major hits have earned numerous gold discs, Ivor Novello awards and, in 1982, the British Academy Gold Badge of Merit. In the mid-1960s, it was unusual for a British singles chart not to list a Les Reed song” He wrote Delilah – that Tom Jones Made famous.
